About Me
"One's destination is never a place but a new way of seeing things." --Henry Miller
My name is Lauren Johnson and I have accepted an invitation to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Dominican Republic. I created this blog to keep you updated on my day to day happenings (and challenges) while serving in the DR as a Community Economic Advisor for 27 months. I begin this adventure on March 5, 2013 and return to the United States around May 14, 2015.
So why the Peace Corps?
I get this question a lot...so I thought I'd answer it for all of you still wondering. I graduated from Bethel University May 2012 with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Business with emphases on Marketing and International Business. During my time there I was able to study abroad in Guatemala where I had an internship with a micro-finance organization. This is where my passion for community development and economic empowerment began. Ever since then I had been looking for an opportunity to do this type of work. After looking into different organizations, I chose the Peace Corps because many of it's core values about development aligned with mine.
Note: The contents of this website are mine personally and do not reflect any position of the United States government or the Peace Corps.
